One of the nicest things about Fort Smith, Arkansas is that we have nice days for motorcycle riding in almost every month of the year. Late April and early May are usually some of the nicest months of the year for riding. The temps can range from the 50s at night to as high as the mid-80s during the day. While Mother Nature can be unpredictable, temperatures are usually in the 70s. You’ll see lots of green leaves on the trees and flowers in bloom as you ride some of our great motorcycle roads. Be sure and pack a jacket for cool days and nights, a raincoat/rain suit in case it rains and lots of sunscreen! The temperatures are usually about 10 degrees cooler in the higher elevations like Mount Magazine, the highest point in the state.
The Steel Horse Rally logos represent the strength, resilience and giving nature of the people in our community who make our world a better place. The SHR is dedicated to the military, veterans, law enforcement and first responders and the charity event helps local charities and our community. The logos symbolize the commitment of the Rally volunteers, board members, sponsors and members of the community to making the rally the best charity fundraising event that it can be.
Everyone is welcome at The Steel Horse Rally, no matter what you wear or what kind of motorcycle you ride. You are also welcome at the SHR, no matter what you wear on your jacket, vest or shirt (as long as it is not offensive or obscene). We have worked closely with the Fort Smith Police Department, Fort Smith Fire Department and local businesses, urging everyone to “roll out the welcome mat” for our visitors. While individual businesses may have their own dress codes, most welcome anyone who have a positive attitude (and cash or credit cards in their wallet or purse!) When riding in SHR motorcycle events, riders must wear approved protective eye gear. No nudity is allowed.
Arkansas does not require adult motorcycle riders to wear helmets, however, all riders who are under the age of 21 must wear a helmet. In Oklahoma, motorcyclists under the age of 18 must wear a DOT approved helmet. We always encourage safety first and encourage riders and passengers to wear motorcycle helmets and safety gears. Most Rally events and rides take place in Arkansas and Oklahoma. It’s a good idea to check the laws of the state you may be riding through. All Missouri motorcycle riders and passengers are required to wear helmets. For more information on motorcycle helmet laws, click here
Official SHR merchandise can be found in the booths in the corner of the SHR Vendor Village that is closest to Garrison Avenue. All proceeds go to the Steel Horse Rally Inc. Merchandise from previous Rally events will be available for a discounted price. You can also bu merchandise online here!
The Steel Horse Rally Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 charity that helps raise money for local charities. The annual Steel Horse Rally is dedicated to “all who serve” including military, veterans, law enforcement and first responders. Each year the Steel Horse Rally Inc. accepts applications from charities and organizations that make a positive impact in our community. After the applications are reviewed, the board of directors chooses several deserving charities to receive proceeds and special benefits from the Steel Horse Rally like booth space and an opportunity to get the word out about their organizations. In 2018, the Steel Horse Rally Inc helped several local charities including the Fort Smith Museum of History, The Buddy Smith Veterans House, The Children’s Service League and ARC of the River Valley.
