Inside Fort Smith – Recent “Steel Horse Rally” exceeds expectations in third year.

The Steel Horse Rally in conjunction with the Fort Smith Arkansas A&P Commission announced another record-setting year for the 3rd Annual Steel Horse Rally held May 5-6 in downtown Fort Smith.

According to president,  founder and rally organizer Dennis Snow said the rally has become one of the fastest growing motorcycle events in the country and that this year exceeded all expectations.

“This year’s rally drew more than 50,000 motorcycles and more than 75,000 people attending,” said Snow. “The local positive economic impact of the 2017 Steel Horse Rally is estimated at $13,798,374.”

The Steel Horse Rally is an annual charity motorcycle event that is open to all, honors all who serve and helps raise money for local charities. The 2017 event had a 65 percent increase in the economic impact over the 2016 event that had an estimated economic impact of $8.3 Million.

“This great town, its residents, and bikers from all over this country continue to amaze me,” said Snow. “I knew the Steel Horse Rally would be successful, but this exceeds even my highest expectations. I personally want to thank our volunteers who continue to be the fuel for the Steel Horse Rally.”

“This year with the new addition of the Steel Horse Alley [9th Street where music/entertainment events were held] and the Heroes Salute ceremony and ride, they worked harder and longer than ever before and I could not be more proud of them,” said Snow. “Also, the rally would not be possible without all of the financial support of our wonderful sponsors. We appreciate their contributions and support that make the rally possible.”

Snow said after the final donations are made to the Steel Horse Rally Inc. and bills are paid, in the coming weeks, the Steel Horse Rally Inc. charity will present donations to five local charities that applied.

This year, the 2017 Steel Horse Rally Inc. selected five local charities to benefit from the 2017 Steel Horse Rally: Heroes on the Water, the Buddy Smith Veterans Home, ARC of the River Valley, the Fort Smith Museum of History and Earthbound Angels.

Capt. Danny Baker of the FSPD said “This year’s rally had the largest crowd yet for the Steel Horse Rally.”

Snow praised the expertise, cooperation and communication between the Fort Smith PD, the Steel Horse Rally Volunteers and the general public.

“We thank the Fort Smith Police Department and the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Department for all of their help and cooperation,” Snow said.

The 2017 Steel Horse Rally featured more vendors, more entertainment, more charitable organizations and more rides for motorcycle riders to enjoy. One of the newest rides and events that was open to everyone was the Heroes Salute Ceremony & Ride which honors military, veterans, law enforcement and first responders.

Snow said the Heroes Salute will become an annual event at the Steel Horse Rally because the overwhelming positive response to the event.

Plans are already underway for the 4th Annual Steel Horse Rally, May 4th & 5th, 2018 plus there will be several charity fundraising events before next year’s rally including the 2nd Annual Steel Wheels Bourbon Express and Educational Bourbon Sampling.
